Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower is in Paris. Its height is 1063 feet. It was inaugurated on 31st March, 1889. It is the highest iron tower in the world.

Eiffel Tower was not built as a permanent monument. It was built as a temporary monument. Now, this is one of the wonders of the world. In 1889, there was a world fair conducted in Paris. Authorities wanted to build a unique gateway to that fair. Hence, they built Eiffel Tower.

The construction started on January 28th, 1887. It was completed on March 15th, 1889. The whole of the Eiffel Tower was built with only iron rods.

It was planned so as to reflect the French culture and heritage. Many architects and civil engineers worked for its construction. The main responsibility for the construction was taken by a civil engineering company belonging to architect Gustave Eiffel. The tower itself was named after him. The engineer, Gustave Eiffel, prepared its unique design to enable it to take the high wind velocity at the height of 324 meters even if it allows for a sway of 2-3 inches in high wind.

Eiffel Tower was built as a three-storied tower. There are eight glass lifts in the tower to go up and down. In the first two floors, there are restaurants. There is a skating rink on the first floor during winters and the facility is free to use. In addition, a post office, a photo studio and souvenir shops are all scattered over the first two floors of the tower. To reach the first two floors, lift as well as stairs are available. The third floor is the topmost. Lift is a must to go to the third floor. Binoculars are available in the third floor. We can see the whole Paris from the top.

For the first two floors, there is a ticket and for the third floor, another ticket needs to be taken. With the popularity of the monument, you can expect to face queues but the end view from the top of the tower is a worthwhile experience.

On the base, there are four pillars. All of them converge gradually so that at the top they become one. 12000 no’s of ion rods were fixed in the required shape first. To fixe them, around 7 Million nails were used. Next, all of them were finetuned into a tower shape and fixed on the earth.

First, the authorities wanted to remove the tower after the fair is over. But all the visitors to the fair appreciated the tower. All the visitors as well as the locals praised the beauty of the tower. So, the authorities kept the Eiffel Tower as a permanent tourist attraction. Around the tower, there are grass parks, water fountains are there. The view of the Eiffel Tower from the ground is also very good. The highlights of the display are the lights that sparkle to mark the Eiffel Tower in the skyline for a few minutes every hour during the night.

The Eiffel Tower is in the middle of a beautiful garden. It attracts 7 Million tourists every year.
